Skate And Destroy

Thrash's deep chugga-chugga guitar grind is heavy, and sort of serious-sounding. But bands that rep this punk side project don't usually take themselves seriously at all. It's one of those mysteries the universe simply refuses to clear up. Embodying this conundrum, the local skateboard goofballs in Hightower shake off any such philosophical ambiguity in favor of almost Zen-like shredding on both musical instrument and sidewalk surfboard. For special occasions, they can perform both activities at the same time. At tonight's Halloween Party, Hightower and the other bands on the bill wear costumes, making us think this may qualify as a special occasion. Hightower, Orb of Confusion, and Front Side Five open for Annihilation.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
