• Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings brought a sweaty funk party to the classy confines of Davies Symphony Hall. They didn't quite turn the place into a juke joint, but they sure tried. And after 120 minutes of seamless grooving, it was clear that these musicians are far too good for small, smoky clubs.
• Henry Rollins says the hardest part about performing is talking to his fans afterward. Onstage at Yoshi's this week, he was angry as hell — but still surprisingly optimistic, arguing that younger generations won't buy into the sexism, racism, and homophobia peddled by retrograde politicians.
• S.F. native Tim Presley started Birth Records solely to release the gorgeous debut album from local folk singer Jessica Pratt. "I didn't even care if it sold 100 copies, I loved it that much," says Presley, who is best known as the weirdo behind garage-rock act White Fence.

• Haven't we all had enough of "Gangnam Style"? Apparently MC Hammer hasn't: After performing with Korean pop star PSY at the American Music Awards, the two of them are reportedly working on new material together. Please, PSY-Hammer, don't hurt us.
• Did Wayne Coyne lose his mind in 2012? The Flaming Lips frontman pissed off Erykah Badu, reportedly separated from his wife of 25 years, and brought a (disarmed) grenade to the Oklahoma City airport, disrupting travel for thousands. We love your whimsy, Wayne, not your cluelessness.
• Hey, opening DJs: How hard is it to understand that your role is foreplay, not climax? Taboo, the latest 18+ party at DNA Lounge, saw lots of early-night spinners playing hard and fast, when they should've been easing the crowd into things.
