Apply it to conventional farming, too: Great article on water use, conversation, and using new/old techniques to combat a PR problem that is facing CA's emerging titan cash crop ["The Magic Wick," Chris Roberts, Chem Tales, 10/8]. A system that uses this, and an algae-based fertilizer runoff system with a filter, could create a whole, intact fluidic system for managing water, for not only hydration but also propagation. Hopefully someone tries out a large-scale operation as a prototype to upgrade conventional farming methods, and to combat emerging climate patterns... Well, that and the rising cost of water and availability might bring the cost to a point where the margins are good enough.

Not another bond: SFMTA (San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency) has already wasted billions of dollars while cutting Muni service in every neighborhood ["The Ides of 'May,'" Joe Eskenazi, column, 10/8]. Now Prop A incurs $1 billion in new debt (principal plus interest) with no legal commitment to Muni projects, cutting more buses in neighborhoods while raising property taxes and rents. If new bonds are rejected, property taxes and rents would decrease for everyone, not just for rich companies and the wealthy. SFMTA annual budgets have increased but Muni riders get only service cuts. Increased overhead, project cost overruns, and mismanagement take money from the entire Muni system, causing Muni service cuts in every neighborhood. Demand accountability from our elected leaders.

Hell on two wheels: My sister actually got hit by a bicycle rider ["What the Hell Are These New Bike Guidelines San Francisco Adopted?" Leif Haven, The Snitch, 10/10]. He messed up her car, and knocked himself out. Cyclists should be required to have insurance and license plates too!
