Drug Money

But how much does it cost?: One thing that keeps PrEP from taking off has barely been mentioned: cost ["Viral Panic," Rachel Swan, feature, 12/17]. Will insurers cover it? What if the person doesn't have insurance? How about people who are not poor enough to be on Medicaid but not rich enough to actually afford anything?

History 0x000Athe Musical

Current events set to music: Great write-up ["The Golden Age," Emma Silvers, Music, 12/17]. Couldn't agree more that this is Cracker's best album and perhaps its most effective commentary on chronicling the shift of American (and particularly Californian) class and social divides.

Deer vs. cyclist collision could have turned out a lot worse: Glad to hear the cyclist's okay ["Cyclist and Deer Collide on Marin Road," Erin Sherbert, the Snitch, 12/17]. That deer is lucky he wasn't a beer truck.

Reader in support of San Francisco hosting the Olympics: The Bay Area is totally capable of handling the Olympics ["San Francisco Makes USOC 2024 Olympics Pitch Today," Rachel Swan, the Snitch, 12/16]. The Olympics would span the entire Bay Area, not just San Francisco, and without having to build multiple venues costing everyone billions of dollars. There's AT&T park, Stanford, SAP Arena, Levi's Stadium, Cal, Oracle Arena and O.co Coliseum, and countless smaller venues. By 2024, the A's, Raiders, and Warriors could/should be in new state of the art venues as well. S.F. can do this!

Reader opposed to San Francisco hosting the Olympics: Do not do accept the Olympics, San Francisco. Some industries temporarily benefit (construction, hotels, taxis, and restaurants), but the host region gets the long term shaft. Just look at the historical record. Possibly Squaw Valley, New York, and Utah [ski resorts were the only ones that] fared well after the athletes left.

Correction

In last week's feature ["Viral Panic," Rachel Swan, 12/17] we misidentified the drug Truvada as being a generic form of the PrEP drug. It's Gilead Science Inc.'s brand name for the AIDS prevention drug PrEP. SF Weekly regrets the error.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
