Sex Files

Wednesday, May 21 2014

There are those who love their fellow man and those who observe them, anatomizing and cataloguing their multifarious qualities. Erstwhile English professor turned pornographic fiction writer, tattoo artist, and sexual rebel Sam Steward was both, adventuring mightily in the midst of mankind through Chicago and San Francisco and meticulously documenting over 800 sexual encounters on thousands of file cards that record 60 years of affairs and notably serve as an archive of historical information about homosexual relationships before 1969. In Homo File, writer and director Seth Eisen commemorates Steward's life, which included friendships with sex researcher Alfred Kinsey and infamous modernist writer Gertrude Stein, in a dramatic performance that includes film, live drawing, Japanese bunraku puppetry, aerial acrobatics, and more. Part historical chronicle, part spectacle, Homo File explores the many facets of a man who lived more vigorously than the rest. Brian Livingston takes on the role of Steward.

Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 7 p.m. Starts: May 30. Continues through June 15, 2014

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
