Seeing Is Believing

What is "visual poetry?" Couldn't that term describe painting, or photography, or dancing? The answer is yes, of course, but the performers and writers and other contributors to "Visual Poetry and Performance Festival" want to be more specific. With the intention to experiment, many participants bring the ever-expanding number of technical options such as projections and film collage into play as they write their pieces -- the toys available to independent artists may be sparklier than they once were, but the writing process remains the same.

This evening's stage show, separate from the exhibit, features one of our favorite performance artists, Violeta Luna, and Guillermo Gallido, aka gal*in_dog in an exploration of national identities in conflict with the 21st century.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
