Last week, several Bay Area residents received MacArthur "genius" grants. What San Francisco–led innovations were worthy of the prestigious award?

• A massive art installation with blinking lights. It's just like every other San Francisco art installation, except that these lights were blue.

• A potential cure for Republicans

• Discovery of a heretofore unknown 141st character inTwitter messages

• A groundbreaking conversation about environmentalism that is neither smug nor condescending

• A new adverb to replace "hella"

• Development of several even more ineffective campaigns for gay marriage

• The discovery of six new minority groups we've been oppressing all this time

• Dozens of new ways to be disappointed in President Obama

• The establishment of cutting-edge new models of journalism that manage to make traditional newspapers look really good by comparison

• Celebrating sex until it's no longer interesting

• Proving that a city can get along without a mayor

The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
