Ammiano's stirred but not shaken
Former Supervisor and Assemblyman Tom Ammiano was in good humor after a car he was in was struck by a vehicle driven by a suspect purportedly in the midst of a crime spree. Ammiano tells SF Weekly he and the driver of his vehicle, his former aide Kimberly Alverenga, have scrapes and bruises and whiplash but are "feeling really lucky" after a Saturday evening incident on Sixth and Mission. For this, Ammiano credits his "gay guardian angel." While idling at the stoplight at around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Ammiano says he was jolted as a black Mercedes ran the intersection and sped toward Alvarenga's car. The vehicle, purportedly driven by the subject of a police all-points bulletin, ricocheted off "two or three cars" before slamming, head-on, into Ammiano and Alvarenga's vehicle. The driver of the Mercedes, who purportedly had stolen that vehicle and engaged in a number of crimes that day, was apprehended not far from the scene. After squeezing past the airbags and exiting the vehicle, Ammiano was surprised when a passing cabdriver encouraged him to run for mayor.
She's a Persistent Peripatetic
San Francisco's most notorious traveler has taken to the skies again. Marilyn Hartman, 63, was arrested this week after she reportedly sneaked onto a flight to Jacksonville, Fla., without a ticket. KGO, ABC7 reports that Hartman, a San Francisco resident, was arrested in Florida after she allegedly tried to check into an upscale hotel under someone else's name. Police say they found Hartman fast asleep inside her fancy hotel room that wasn't hers. The mere fact that Hartman made it past airport security, once again, concerns investigators and probably everyone else reading this story. This would be Hartman's 11th time sneaking onboard a plane over the last year; seven of those times occurred at SFO. "We tried everything, including offering our hand to help her out. She doesn't want a hand. I think she just wants to fly," San Mateo County District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe tells KGO, ABC7.
