Restaurant Details

A vast array of authentic Sichuan dishes from west central China is served at bargain prices in a plain, clean, well-lighted room, much favored by visitors from the People's Republic. Savory appetizers include fiery marinated fried tofu to pair with cool cucumber salad, tiny wontons in hot chile oil, and irresistible sweet potato cakes with a succulent taro-flour crust. Among the Sam Lok entrees, it's best to pig out on pork (spicy "twice-cooked" pork or a banquet-size braised shank with subtle five-spice seasoning). Vegetable standouts at this Chinatown restaurant include jade-colored mustard greens richly infused with garlic, and unique shoestring potatoes with vinegar or chile oil. Even the tea is special: a subtle sweet-floral blend of chrysanthemum flowers, dried dates, and tiny nuts.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
