Bass-and-drum duo Royal Blood has quickly become one of the hottest bands out of Britain in recent memory. Hailing from a small coastal hamlet on the southern end of England 10 miles west of Brighton (the town that produced like-minded alt-rock tandem Blood Red Shoes), bassist/singer Mike Kerr and drummer Ben Thatcher bash out a bracing sound equally indebted to tuneful garage punk and Zeppelin-esque blues stomp. With Kerr's biting, hyper-distorted bass tone easily covering the absent guitar's sonic range without sacrificing any bottom end, the band's eponymous debut showcases a pummeling swagger that's been all but absent from alternative rock since Queens of the Stone Age released Songs for the Deaf. For these two sold-out shows at Slim's, the duo will deliver their ferocious live set after a performance by Michael Shuman's L.A.-based power-pop trio, Mini Mansions.
