Despite having a title so vague it might as well have beenSubject Verb Object, James C. Strouse'sPeople Places Thingsis a pleasant romantic comedy. Will (Flight of the Conchords' JemaineClement, letting his New Zealand accent fly) is an art professor and graphic novelist in New York who's trying to put his life back together after discovering his girlfriendCharlie (Stephanie Allynne) has been unfaithful. Complicating matters are custody issues surrounding Charlie and Will's adorable twin moppets, Clio and Colette (Aundrea and Gia Gadsbay); meanwhile, Will's student Kat (Jessica Williams) sets him up on a date with her mother Diane (Regina Hall). In addition to having some genuinely witty dialogue,People Places Thingspresents what used to be taboo or scandalous as a new kind of normal. There are some things that are unheard of even in indie films: The twins were born out of wedlock, which isn't a big deal; Will is white and Diane is black, which isn't a plot point; and Regina Hall is older than Jemaine Clement. People Places Thingsdoes leave some threads unresolved at the end, but then again, so does life.
