Robag Wruhme
Hear the brilliance that results when techno gets weird: Robag Wruhme will be joined by Maceo Plex and DJ Adnan on Friday, May 27, at Public Works. 9 p.m., $12; www.publicsf.com.
Before the Berlin Wall fell, East German producer Gabor Schablitzki could barely get his hands on Western music, much less make it. Maybe that's why his odd minimal techno tracks as Robag Wruhme push aside stylistic barriers and seriously fuck with convention. Schablitzki's Musique Concrète approach, heard on singles and mixes for labels like Freude Am Tanzen and Kompakt, add rattling chains, tapped pipes, airy echoes, and other unexpected sound shards to rich piano and synth chords. His DJ sets similarly play with sonic space and odd tempos. Split from former DJ duo Wighnomy Brothers, Schablitzki flies solo for his U.S. tour and new album Thora Vukk (on Pampa Records).
