Rice Paper Scissors, one of our favorite semipermanent restaurants run by two of our favorite people (Valerie Luu and Katie Kwan, who love sitting on little red stools as much as they love street food), is joining up with some other power players in the Vietnamese food world to put on a Summer Night Market on Friday, July 24, re-creating Southeast Asia's hawker fares across a series of booths outside Brick & Mortar Music Hall.

Turtle Tower, SUP!, and Bicycle Banh Mi will be joining the party, the $16 entrance for which guarantees you a taste of something from everybody, including SUP!'s coconut-panko fried shrimp with tamarind-honey chili dipping sauce and Bicycle Banh Mi's thit kho (caramelized braised pork belly in coconut soda, served on a won ton chip).

But only Rice Paper Scissors will serve goi vit, a salad made from duck and chicken gizzards, along with market vegetables and a ginger-lime dressing. (The veg alternative, goi chay, involves fresh and fried tofu, roasted peanuts, fried shallots, fried mung beans, Thai chilies, mint, and cilantro.) They're not stopping there, either, so maybe consider eating a very light lunch no later than 11:30 a.m. that day, because you'll be confronted with xiu banh mi (a chicken meatball sandwich with ginger-tomato sauce), cha ca thanh long (turmeric fish with rice noodles), bap xao (sticky corn with green garlic sauce), and a summer daikon cake made with market vegetables, all of which are available separately for purchase. You're, uh, prolly gonna want some of those.

Check out Rice Paper Scissors' artsy Tumblr for a better sense of how they scour markets, and for a glimpse of the good times to come.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
