THURSDAY & FRIDAY: Vincente Minnelli probes the problems of two tormented artists as portrayed by Kirk Douglas, Vincent Van Gogh in Lust for Life (1956; 7:30 p.m. ) and film producer Jonathan Shields in The Bad and the Beautiful (1953; 5:20, 9:45 p.m. ). Minnelli"s hysterical style is a good match for Douglas" tormented acting in two of the 1950s" best male melodramas.
