Nurse With Wound
Great American
It's anyone's guess what's in store when Nurse with Wound returns (with compatriots irr.app.(ext.), Jim Haynes, and Freida Abtan) on Thursday, March 26. 9 p.m., $30; 885-0750 or www.gamh.com.
Legendary Dadaist noise outfit Nurse with Wound started as a trio in 1978, and has had plenty of collaborators along the way, but ultimately the group revolves around the surreal sound artistry of Steven Stapleton. Over dozens of releases, the Englishman has practiced sprawling experimentalism that ranges from harsh musique concrète and lulling drones to absurdist collage. While prolific, Nurse with Wound was also reclusive: The first live appearances in 22 years were at the Great American Music Hall in June 2006, when Stapleton and crew performed a rendition of Salt Marie Celeste, a burbling sonic analog of a sinking ship.
