Hear This: Refused at GAMH
If your political leanings are to the right, you may not be able to truly appreciate Sweden's
Refused and its style of punk. The quartet rose to great acclaim during the late '90s releasing three successive albums that ripped and teared at the core of the genre. But it wasn't until its magnificent 1998 opus,
The Shape of Punk to Come, and following breakup, that practically everyone came into the know. It would take until 2012 for the band to reunite and another three years to release its fourth record,
Freedom, due out in June on Epitaph Records. While the band was obviously influenced by the likes of Nation of Ulysses and Born Against — two great raucous punk and hardcore bands in their own right — only Refused has steadfastly rallied against the system and came back from the dead to find more hungry fans waiting.
