Rainbow Arabia

The name says it all. Rainbow Arabia mashes fragrant Middle Eastern flavors into every sick color that weedy electro-psych has to offer, creating a greenhouse effect that's part euphoria, part paranoia. The grabby 7-inch single "Omar K" and last year's The Basta EP are shockingly dense for the work of just two people: L.A.–based spouses Danny and Tiffany Preston. He handles keys and beats, while she juggles guitar and percussion with opaque yelps recalling M.I.A. and/or amateur whale calls. The duo's new Kabukimono EP is another hazy, clamorous outing, with no exits clearly marked.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
