Founded in the '60s by Walt Stack, a beloved figure in the jogging community and star of the first “Just Do It” commercial, the club holds low-cost races nearly every Sunday of the year, and everybody gets a ribbon. The Golden Gate Bridge Vista 10K is one of the most scenic, if hilly, squirreling along Land’s End Trail in Lincoln Park, through tony Sea Cliff, past Baker Beach, and up the steep curving road to a great view of the bridge — and back. If it sounds grueling, consider Stack’s famed advice: “Start slow ... and taper off.”
