Putting It All Together

Wednesday, May 11 2011
Romare Bearden is an author, visual artist, songwriter, and jazz aficionado -- a master of multiple forms of expression. “From Process to Print,” his touring exhibition, includes more than 75 works, and it's a chance to submerge yourself in this multi-talented artist. Using themes of ritual, mythology, jazz, trains, family life, and Southern culture, Bearden transports you to a time much different from today. Baptism, for example, depicts two men being dunked into a river: The collage's varying blues and vivid whites bring this Southern custom to life in a simple way. The exhibit also includes prints based on collages, like the Odysseus Series and Piano Lesson.
Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: May 11. Continues through July 3, 2011

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
