Private Eyes

Wednesday, Feb 20 2008
We dream sweet dreams of Barcelona, where the ladies all look like Penelope Cruz and the men all look like Gael García Bernal. (We fully realize that Bernal is Mexican, not Spanish. But this is our fantasy, so hush.) The Ojos de Brujo show and unveiling of its new DVD isn't going to calm us down any, with the band's silky hip-hop updates of already-sexy flamenco and rumba sounds. Traditional vocal harmonies meet bhangra beats in the company of plenty of guitarras and trompetas, not to mention bateria. The band includes a dancer, because when you rep flamenco, you can do that.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
