Ruthless corporate takeover attorney Edward Lewis (Richard Gere) gets more than he bargained for when he hires Vivian Ward (Julia Roberts), a lovely lady of the evening, as his escort. A one-night-stand turns into week after week of makeovers as Vivian is transformed into the woman that Edward thinks he wants. Director Garry Marshall took what might have been a sordid hackneyed parody of Pygmalion and turned it into a sweet, innocent, and warm-hearted tale of love and redemption. Julia Robert’s performance as an utterly adorable hooker-with-a-heart launched her into Hollywood's A-List and the chemistry between her and Richard Gere made this film easily the most memorable romantic comedy of the 1990s.
