Post:Ballet: Five High

Catch the closing night of Post:Ballet’s fifth season, “Five High,” tonight. Featuring ballet talents with pedigrees from far as the Paris Opera Ballet and the Dutch National Ballet to as close as Smuin Ballet and LINES, the company premieres Robert Dekkers’s ourevolution, with music by Nils Frahm and visual art by Enrique Quintero. This new work explores the modern condition of isolation and the remaining possibilities for social and environmental connection. The program also brings the return of last year’s field the present shifts, with grandiose hanging sculptures by Robert Gilson and Catherine Caldwell and an original score by Matthew Pierce that is played live for the performance. Mine is Yours, a piece on sharing in relationships originally created for the San Francisco International Arts Festival in 2012, with music by electronic composer wizard Daniel Berkman, rounds out the bill.

  • clipping at Brava Theater Sept. 11
    Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
