Pile: Show Preview

Emerging on the Boston scene in 2007 as the solo project of singer and guitarist Rick Maguire, Pile may be the next big thing to cannonball out of the New England punk scene. With sudden, ferocious outbursts stitched into the eerie, introspective musings of Maguire's songs, it's easy to see how Pile has built so much buzz. The band twists its skittish dynamics without sounding contrived or obnoxious. In a sea of angular guitar melodies and cacophonous mood swings, Pile delves into anxiety, frustration, and unabashed fury on its new album, You're Better Than This. The songs are fluid, moving from blunt-force trauma, to brooding, bloodletting contemplations, and back to earth-shredding chaos with the yank of a chainsaw starter.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
