The members of Pidgeon jump right into From Gutter With Love, opening with a flurry of sinister guitars and rumbling rhythms. But wait, what was that? For a second, and just a second, you think you hear some sugary pop goodness, in between the death-metal vocal interludes. There it is again. What exactly is going on here? The only answer, friend, is that this Bay Area quintet is more meticulous and sneaky than most bands. There's no difference for these musicians between heavy metal, alternapop, and spacious indie rock. They throw all the styles into a blender and end up with a very curious beast on From Gutter With Love. And whatever doctor helped tidy up the stitches when that creature first emerged must make serious bucks -- this band's changes are utterly seamless.
