Tessie Chua and Yayne Abeba are up-and-coming comedians. Chua is Chinese-American and Abeba is Ethiopian-American — you probably think you know something about them now! But you don’t. Chua, for example, is loud and somewhat growly, and tells jokes such as “I can’t be a nun. I’m a slut!” and “When I tell a joke that bombs, I’m mad the audience is so fucking stupid!” She’s also the current champion of pantyhose jokes, as far as we know. Abeba’s material is largely unprintable. One of the rare barbs we won’t look like assholes repeating is “They don’t teach you much about being black at French-American International School.” At Marga’s Laugh Party, both women are onstage doing their usual busting up of stereotypes, in the good company of W. Kamau Bell (who autographs his new CD, Face Full of Flour), Bucky Sinister, Loren Kraut, and of course, your sexy MC, Gomez.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
