Papa M

Wednesday, Dec 16 2009

Few musicians have the stylistic range — as well as range of guises — of David Pajo. While known primarily as a guitarist, he is also a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist performing under the banners of Aerial M, Papa M, and his own name. The indie-rock community discovered him in the 1980s via his membership in Squirrel Bait and Slint. He has also plied his trade in Tortoise, Royal Trux, and Bonnie Prince Billy. Pajo's approach includes mellifluous and minimalist six-string soundscapes, downcast folk- and country-influenced ballads, and, occasionally, a melding of the two. Pajo is making two special California appearances in which he'll perform his esteemed 1999 album, Live from a Shark Cage, in its entirety.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
