Ozomatli @ The New Parish

Wednesday, Jul 13 2016

Ozomatli isn't messing around and it has the Grammys to prove it. The band's 2001 release Embrace the Chaos won a Grammy for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album, an award the band won again in 2005. The Los Angeles band blends hip-hop and rock with fiery horns, Latin guitar licks, and funky bass, and has a reputation for lively performances. The sextet will be playing not one, not two, but three shows in Oakland this weekend. Its Saturday daytime show will be a bit different from its night shows, though. The band will be playing an all-ages kid-friendly set — in 2012, the band released Ozomatli Presents OzoKidz — so plan which show you attend accordingly.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
