Open Bike

Wednesday, Apr 27 2011
Like your heart after you pound a Red Bull or two, the pedals of a fixed-gear bike are forever wheeling forward. Some folks find that scary; others ride that momentum down through SOMA, into Justin Herman Plaza, and right on over to the sign-up sheet for Ride & Style, this afternoon’s competition in fixed-gear energy-drink family-fun badassedness. The rest of us can watch them. Enjoy the inventive athleticism of freestyle bike jamming on an obstacle course built by a collective of urban artists. Check out heat after heat of fixed-gear races beneath a starting-line arch built by artists Mark Grieve and Ilana Spector from busted cycle parts they salvaged out of dumpsters. Bob along to tunes spun by DJ Goldenchyld, recent winner of the Thre3Style San Francisco contest. Bike on over, and leave the chain-up process to a Bike Coalition valet. In short, here’s four hours of bikes, bodies — and, for imbibers of the sponsoring product — fluids in freewheeling motion.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
