Of Montreal: Show Preview

It's getting harder and harder to stay relevant in the indie scene unless you're touring and releasing records of quality. Athens, Georgia's Of Montreal has defied the odds with each successive release through the perseverance of leader Kevin Barnes. The band is touring to support its 13th release, which is, oddly enough, titled Aureate Gloom. If you're a fan of quick-witted, angular pop that hearkens back to its origins with early Talking Heads or Television fare, this one will be right up your alley. Although change has been Barnes' constant since the band's inception, this is still one band worth checking out in person. Make sure to check out both of the openers as well, since since Yip Deceiver is quite the hot ticket and Springtime Carnivore is absolutely magnificent live.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
