The Oakland Ballet Company is marking its 50th birthday this year, and what better way to celebrate than by inviting hoofers from all over the East Bay? The East Bay DANCES festival lineup includes AXIS Dance Company, which features dancers with and without disabilities; Danse Lumière dance theater; the globe-trotting Diablo Ballet; and more. It's a day of classical, folk, and contemporary dance, and the guest of honor is getting into the action, too, with the Oakland Ballet debuting pieces by Val Caniparoli, Betsy Erickson, Robert Moses, and other guest choreographers.
Check out East Bay DANCES at 3 and 5:30 p.m. at the Odell Johnson Performing Arts Center Theater at Laney College, 900 Fallon St., Oakland. $10-$20; oaklandballet.org.
