Not Another Nutcracker

If you're in need of a Nutcracker fix this holiday season, but don't feel like spending an evening in between a snoring teenager and an old woman unwrapping cough drops, consider Nutcrackers of the Caribbean. Grab a loved one, your kids, or a friend and join Pirate Captain Drosselmyer to search the Bay for the lost treasure of Peglegs Tchaikovsky. This Nutcracker is interactive and inclusive – the opposite of a traditional ballet. Everyone is welcome to strut like a prima ballerina and hang out with Clara, Fritz, and Emperor Norton, all set to music by the San Francisco Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band. So throw on your finest eye-patch and shoulder parrot and be prepared to shake it with some new friends. If you're shy about dancing in front of others, or if you just want a bit of social lubricant, grab a ticket to the 21+ Captain's Ball Gala.

Sat., Dec. 14, 2 & 7 p.m.; Sun., Dec. 15, 11 a.m. & 3 p.m., 2013

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
