Mt. Tam Jam
Mt. Jam Tam with Galactic, Cake, Taj Mahal, and more. Noon Saturday, June 22, at the mountain theater. $50; tamjam.org.
The Mt. Tam Jam brings live music to Mt. Tamalpais's century-old amphitheater for the first time since the Summer of Love. Back then, it was a hippie-art freakout with the Doors, Jefferson Airplane, and Captain Beefheart. Now, it's gonna be an epic groove party featuring New Orleans funk machine Galactic, attitudinal hipsters Cake (still laying down "I Will Survive" after all these years), chameleonic bluesman Taj Mahal, marrow-deep white-boy soul singer Mike Farris (with his blazing big band the Roseland Rhythm Revue), and ballsy blues rockers Danny Click & the Hell Yeahs. The concert is a benefit to help keep the park alive and well at a time when the government seems only interested in funding the police state. The producers at Tamalpais Conservation Club hope this Saturday's event will be the beginning of an "annual, sustainable revenue source." Doing your part should sound great — and the view from up there won't be bad, either.
