Mount Kimbie: Show Preview

Thursday, Jun 13 2013

Looking for a crash course in the delicate art of speaking a lot but not saying much? Just Google some interviews with the members of Mount Kimbie. London residents and ex-schoolmates Dominic Maker and Kai Campos have granted several since establishing the project in 2008, but always avoid getting into the nitty-gritty details of their arcane electronic music. Lately, the duo hasn't ventured far past bland discussions of their creative process and how Cold Spring Fault Less Youth, their new second record, sounds bigger than their 2010 debut. Some heart-spilling insight would add crucial context to their innocuously whirring machines and drone-inspired beats, but then, how could anyone expect anything besides cageyness? Barring occasional eruptions of bass, Kimbie seems to champion all-around reticence. The music's small movements may have big meanings, but only Maker and Campos know what they are.
