Mother-daughter Duet

Wednesday, Dec 18 2013

The holidays are about families, and what better way to commemorate them than by watching a mother-daughter team kill it on the dance floor? No, not Dainty June and Gypsy Rose Lee, and not Sigourney Weaver and Jennifer Love Hewitt in that 2001 chick flick Heartbreakers — think a little more local and a lot more Latin. Ballet Flamenco's Carolina Lugo and Carolé Acuña perform their Fiesta Navidena 2013 at Peña Pachamama. Have an organic grass-fed steak, sip a sangria, and sit back as the former speakeasy where Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio had their wedding dinner and Clark Gable held illicit trysts with Carole Lombard is transformed into a rhythmic hotbox of footwork, song, castanets, syncopated hand clapping, and guitar. Exorcise the bitter and ring in the sweet with a thorough drumming of heels.

Fridays-Sundays, 6:15 p.m. Starts: Dec. 7. Continues through Dec. 29, 2013

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
