Money, Women, Money, Rage, Money, Megalomania, Money… Rings a Bell?
Harpagon is obsessed with money. His son is, brains-wise, a sandwich short of a picnic. His daughter longs to marry his top adviser. He has dictatorial power over the whole household, and thinks of himself as almost perfect, with a soft spot for much younger women. He is short tempered, obnoxious, and prone to firing whoever resists his will. Where money is concerned, he throws tantrums, is devoid of empathy, and believes the law should bend to his whim. Surprisingly, no one takes him seriously.
