Modeselektor: Show Preview

Wednesday, Apr 11 2012

Don't like the beat-based direction that Radiohead's music has been going in? You can direct at least part of your blame at Modeselektor, the celebrated Berlin electronic outfit whose diverse sound Thom Yorke has a habit of praising. The whiney-voiced Brit even sings a track on Monkeytown, Modeselektor's relentlessly surprising album from last year. Like a lot of the outfit's work, the latest record wanders between futuristic hip-hop, punishing techno, melancholy rhythmscapes, and Teutonic R&B. Unpredictability makes the music hard to classify, but that — along with the duo's dry sense of humor — also makes the music a thrill.

Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
