Expectations for New Year's Eve events get inflated; this is a fact of life. But by attending a comedy showcase, you're virtually guaranteeing that you'll be laughing as 2013 turns to 2014. And there's nothing wrong with laughing; in fact, some doctors agree that it's the "best medicine." This year's third-annual NYE Comedy Countdown boasts a lineup featuring thought-provoking Hannibal Buress, the comely Jessimae Peluso, perpetual Stoner of the Year Doug Benson, the hostly Pete Holmes, Oakland homeboy Moshe Kasher, and even more. With this lineup of rather diverse comedic voices and stylings, there will be a joke for everyone. And if it's funny enough, you might catch yourself laughing about it the next day, albeit somewhat nostalgically, as you take down your 2013 photos-of-horses calendar and put up your new 2014 photos-of-horses calendar. Damn, you just love horses, don't you?

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
