Maria Awesome Show, Great Job!

Wednesday, Jul 14 2010
If you’re enjoying the golden era of "weird" happening in comedy right now, Maria Bamford is your gal. With quick manipulations of her thin lips, or a deadpan flattening of her otherwise-squeaky voice to imitate a friend or nemesis, Bamford goes the distance when it comes to making you laugh without a linear narrative. She’s easy to follow, and never boring: You may have caught her in the Comedians of Comedy tour and movie, alongside the currently ubiquitous Zach Galifianakis (another whose style doesn’t rely on pat setups and punchline formulas) and Patton Oswalt. She recently guest-starred on John C. Reilly’s fantastically whacked and wonderful Check It Out! with Dr. Steve Brule on Adult Swim, and is sure to be popping up more and more, especially if the mainstream stays weird.

Chris Voth and Nato Green open.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
