Make ‘Em Laugh

Wednesday, May 4 2011
We have a friend named Jasper; he was born with severe brain damage, and nobody knew what was going to happen at first. But he’s nearly a big kid now! He’s really laid-back, he doesn’t talk much, but it was easy to see how much he loved Easter, what with all the sunshine, and other kids, and toys, and games. Access to Adventure is a fun-and-games day in the park for kids with disabilities, and it features tons of information from groups that specialize in sports, outdoor stuff, dance, and more for Jasper and his scene. The awesome LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired is there, as are Canine Companions. We knew about those cool guys, but we’d never heard of BAADS, the Bay Area Association of Disabled Sailors, who are also floating around today, looking to recruit tiny landlubbers. Live bluegrass music, the elusive free lunch, and more make the day fun for Jasper. (And his mom, who ate his Peeps for him on Easter. He was cool with it.)

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
