Matter for Consideration
Theoretical physicist
Lisa Randall can talk about super-symmetry or cosmological inflation in ways that interest and challenge (rather than baffle) the average pea brain. The Harvard professor has enhanced scientific knowledge with her studies of elementary particles and fundamental forces, as well as her theories on extra dimensions of space. She is also known for linking theoretical concepts to mysteries in our understanding of the workings of matter and for her research on baryogenesis, Standard Model observables, string theory, general relativity, and other issues. Her books have appeared on
New York Times’ notable book lists. Interestingly, she has also written an opera libretto. Her lecture at the JCC coincides with the release of her new book,
Dark Matter and the Dinosaurs: The Astounding Interconnectedness of the Universe, in which she explores the consequences of the comet believed to have wiped out the dinosaurs, links cosmology with human biology, and discusses the importance of preserving elements on Earth that are vital to our existence.
