Lights Down Low: Show Preview

Wednesday, Nov 30 2011

Washington, D.C., might not be the first place that comes to mind when dance music is mentioned. Yet in just two short years, D.C.-based production outfit Benoit & Sergio has risen to international prominence with a sound that combines aspects of smart '80s pop (think Talking Heads, Roxy Music, and Paul Simon) with the slick, engineered sound of tech house. This year has been a big one for the duo, with singles like "Where the Freaks Have No Name" (on Visionquest) and "Boy Trouble" (on DFA) lighting up dancefloors the world over. This week, Benoit & Sergio headline Lights Down Low alongside Brooklyn's No Regular Play, and local upstarts Pillow Talk. DJ support comes in the form of Thee Mike B, Rich Korach, Sososoon, Sleazemore, and Eli Glad.

The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
