Light It Up

Light It Up Cork Marcheschi is like a child staring at a lightbulb, maybe the lightbulb in the refrigerator, fascinated, opening and closing the door, hoping to know for certain whether it really goes off when the door's closed — except he'd have to be like a child who's really good with electrical wiring and possibly a blowtorch. "Cabinet of Curiosities" isn't the Jules Verne-inspired show we thought it might be from the name. Instead, Marcheschi has drawn on the ultramodern, the clean-lined, and the scientific for inspiration during the past 40 years — the show is a retrospective. Bands of light in a cylindrical lamp, glowing beads bunched in a metal box, and bulbs on the feet of a chair, though, all show that the artist is still somewhat and delightfully juvenile.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Feb. 1. Continues through Feb. 26, 2011

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
