Love and Taxes

Insightful piece on gay marriage and taxation: Great piece by Rachel Swan ["To Be Gay and In Love," Sucka Free City, 8/13]! I'm a proponent of gay marriage, and I appreciate having a better understanding of the broader impact. Thanks!

Reader wants Marin to change, not S.F.: Why can't it just be for Marin ["Buy the Numbers," Joe Eskenazi, Sucka Free City, 8/13]? Make everyone change their area code up there. Leave the city as 415.

Outside Lands concertgoers sneaking booze could have picked better liquor, according to reader: If someone is going to go through all the trouble, at least sneak in good booze, not that Fireball crap ["Outside Lands: Guy Who Smuggled Booze in Bread Loaf Speaks Out," Erin Sherbert, the Snitch, 8/14].

Reader responds to a sad story of an attack in Duboce Park: How sad, my deepest and heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends ["Bryan Higgins: Man Beaten In Duboce Park Dies," David Mariuz, the Snitch, 8/13]. I hope they find the person responsible for this. Rest in paradise. Peace.

Free transportation comes in the form of two feet: My 5.5-mile, each way, bike ride was free for all three days, with free valet parking ["Uber Charges Up to $470 Per Ride at Outside Lands," Rachel Swan, the Snitch, 8/11]. Anyone who was willing to take an Uber with 5x-surge hopefully learned a good lesson for next time! Or is just rich enough to not care; in which case, good for the driver!

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
