Land Ho!

Wednesday, May 7 2008
For some, the KFOG KaBoom! is a perfectly good waste of thousands of dollars of pyrotechnics, thanks to the music of Dave Matthews. But imagine watching the show while sitting in a kayak in the bay. Now are we talking? Run by the capable hands at City Kayak, who regularly spirit people out to Alcatraz and under the Golden Gate Bridge, the KaBoom! Fireworks Kayak Trip will get you as close as possible to the real action: the mythical fireworks barge. Escorted by power boats, a flotilla of two-person kayaks will proceed out from Pier 40, then edge up to within 1,000 feet of the barge, which, when not being used for fireworks, roams the Arctic playing with narwhals. First-time paddlers need not apply, but City Kayak teaches people every day of the week along the waterfront, so that's no excuse.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
