Katy B: Show Preview

Wednesday, Jan 18 2012

British singer Katy B did the unthinkable — she made dubstep sexy. With a voice that's seductive and breezy, she turned the underground dance clubs of her South London home into sanctuaries for the young and brokenhearted. Her debut album, On a Mission, finds the 22-year-old somewhat evoking the memory of Aaliyah, singing over a poppy blend of grime, dubstep, and early '90s house. Like fellow BRIT School alumni Adele and Amy Winehouse, she's found a way to celebrate both the beauty and pratfalls of tragic love, but dance while doing it.

Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
