Jigsaw Seen: Show Preview

Wednesday, Nov 30 2011

Tradition-versed critics love it, fanboys and girls adore it, and charts seem immune to it: Call it power pop, or indie pop — it's music based in the verities of the Beatles, Beach Boys, Big Star, and XTC, laced with contemporary wit and irony. L.A. outfit the Jigsaw Seen has been plying its version since the mid-'80s and might have come up with a masterwork in new album Winterland. It's a holiday-themed set that encompasses the enchantment and melancholy of the season, yet maintains a nifty timelessness that allows it to be relished before and after. Arrangements are sumptuous, and the band's Hollies/Posies harmonies are heavenly.
