With residencies in his home base of Berlin and his home country of Britain, as well as megaclub/festival gigs galore, DJ and producer Jesse Rose has plenty of opportunities to field-test his signature wonky bass bombs. He's so busy dropping cheeky, chopped-up 4/4 funk that that one wonders how he finds time to release the campy-cool tunes he finds percolating along the way. Yet along with spinning, Rose runs the Made to Play label, which was recently celebrated on the compilation Re:Play — Five Years of Made to Play. Inspired by equal parts hip-house and deep techno, Rose lays slow-burning, organic grooves on rude, pitch-bent basslines. It's a sound also celebrated by San Francisco's own Claude VonStroke, of dirtybird/mothership records, who will join Rose for their first appearance together since 2006.
