Janelle Monae: Show Preview

Wednesday, Oct 30 2013

With its Prince and Erykah Badu collaborations, Janelle Monáe's second album, The Electric Lady, solidified the singer's reputation for breaking boundaries within music. Her last appearance in San Francisco was earlier this year at Davies Hall, where she fronted the San Francisco Symphony in a masterful performance that showed how the Kansas-born, Atlanta-based artist transcends the special quality of her songs when presenting them in a live setting. Count on Monáe to appear resplendent in black and white, a tribute to the working-class uniforms she and her parents used to wear every day, and to make a strong bid for longevity with her stage presence. Also, count on some excellent, forward-looking R&B.
