Incredibly Strange

Dipping into the bizarre, dense Web site of Kaiju Big Battel reveals the endurance of Japanese Kaiju, or monster fighters. It also reveals – slowly, cheekily – that something is amiss. Hey, is this whole thing a prank by some Boston art students? Why, yes it is, but it’s a prank that has become a legitimate if intergalactic sport. The group, headed by Rand and David Borden and incorporated as Studio Kaiju, has been throwing live, fairly big budget, tournament-style battles with their homemade monsters since 1994. Their costumes are insane (a can of soup!), the battles are more so, and the grammar is atrocious. Tonight’s San Francisco Big Battel features a main event with “intergalactic pest” Uchu Chu fighting the secret-powered, 2415.09433 Martian-pound Neo Teppen. Whatever happens will happen.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
