In Their Element

Wednesday, Jul 25 2007
Dutch progressive house DJ/producer Tiësto (born Tijs Verwest) is bringing his "Elements of Life Tour" to San Francisco. No disrespect to the man, who is one of Europe's most in-demand jocks, but we're actually way more excited about some of the other talent lined up for this massive party, which features three areas of more than a dozen DJs and performers playing the spectrum of electronic club sounds. Überzone, an electro/breakbeat producer from Southern California, plays live, unveiling some of the body-twitching, hyperkinetic grooves of Ideology, his first album in six years. Chicago's Derrick Carter remains one of house music's quirkiest gifts; he's back for the first time in a good while. Other expected DJ highlights include local favorite Mark Farina, L.A.'s Doc Martin, and London's Hyper, all adding up to what looks like a quality night worth the somewhat high price tag.

Sub Pop recording artists 'clipping.' brought their brand of noise-driven experimental hip hop to the closing night of 2016's San Francisco Electronic Music Fest this past Sunday. The packed Brava Theater hosted an initially seated crowd that ended the night jumping and dancing against the front of the stage. The trio performed a set focused on their recently released Sci-Fi Horror concept album, 'Splendor & Misery', then delved into their dancier and more aggressive back catalogue, and recent single 'Wriggle'. Opening performances included local experimental electronic duo 'Tujurikkuja' and computer music artist 'Madalyn Merkey.'"
